We started the Bikeweek events with the
VMOA meeting at JB's Fish Camp. I could not attend this meeting and be
back for the morning ride so Walter Bishop met with everyone. I was told
that all was well. |

On Tuesday we met up at
Denny's to mix and mingle.
Then we rode out to the Don
Garlit's museum of Drag Racing. I have lived in Florida for 10 years and
never visited the museum. I had no idea what I was missing. The museum had
a wonderful complete history of Don's career and other artifact's. My
favorite was the display of broken engine parts. Some of the piston's in
that display case had no top's to them at all. One blower pulley had been
twisted so bad that it looked as if it was manufactured with a helical
twist.
After the museum, we took a
ride down to Istachatta road and had some fun in the twisties.
Then we rode down to Ozello.
Some of the group was separated in some construction and followed Eric
Harnish back to Daytona. The rest followed Gary Spradley back. This
concluded Tuesday's Iron Butt Ride.

| Wednesday we met
at TGI Friday's and rode up to St. Augustine and toured the Old Fort and
had some lunch. We had a little fun on the ride home. Wednesday
evening we ended up over at Bulow's to talk shop and have a brew. I
started to get a cold and had to leave early. |
| Thursday I missed
the ride around the loop from the cold. I had been riding from my home to
Daytona every day and doing the rides. This vigorous schedule finally
caught up with me. As I understand, Lenny led the
ride around the loop. Then some went to the Bike Show. Sorry I don't have
any photos. |

Friday we went to the Deland
Drag Races. We watched several V-Maxes run the 1/4. Eric Ellerman
was running great until his oil pan plug fell out at the end of a run. I
watched a gentleman in his 60's romp on a few crotch rockets with his
purple 1500 flatslide bike. If not for a problem with getting his feet on
the forward controls, he would have been a real problem for most anyone
there. After the drag races, a few of us mixed it up with a 900 Kawasaki
on US 92. I hit the NOS and all that happened was Lenny, Jerry and the 900
left me. I figured out my bottle was not open and ran up the 900 again,
nodded at him to go, hit the NOS and never seen him again. I think I
spooked Jerry when I went by as they didn't know what was going on behind
them. Notice I said behind them! We didn't see the 900 anymore. Wonder why? |
| Friday Night we
went over to Bulow's once again and Rich had a cookout. I am glad we have
dedicated members like Rich who cares enough to not only have the cookout,
but also shells allot of the money out of his own pocket. The highlight of
the evening was a small RC car that was used to terrorize anyone that
passed by. There was some burn outs, including one of my own. We really
have a good time at Bulow's. A real laid back atmosphere. |
| Saturday we held the VMOA BBQ
at Boxenstopp. We must thank Walter Bishop for once again putting together
a great day. We had a great turnout and signed up a few members. Walters
efforts always start about two months in advance to get the BBQ ready. Bob and
the VMOA store was on hand with a full line of VMOA merchandise. A few
guys had fun doing burnouts in front of Boxenstopp as things wound down. |

| That pretty much
sums up Bikeweek other than some outstanding weather. Despite the cool
mornings, you could not have ask for better. Some may remember the flood
we had last year.
I have learned a few lessons about putting on the
Bikeweek events. I plan to
stay around town the next time instead of the "Iron Man" method
I tried this year. One day I ran almost 600 miles on the
V-Max. My ass can't take much of that day in and day out for a week. Also,
the next long
ride will be less than 200 miles. 300 miles seemed to be too much in one
day. There is more photo's on the links below.
Hope to see you at 2004 Biketoberfest! |
