My "Seen This?" Memorial Day Page

As many of you have seen on my site, I like to put together pages of unique videos I find on the internet. I call them my "Seen This?" pages. This time I wanted to do something special. I wanted to construct a page to pay homage to the soldiers and sailors that made the ultimate sacrifice for a cause. Our cause. I did not make any of these, I just searched Youtube for Memorial Day related videos and placed my findings on this page. Some of them are simple and maybe a little overzealous, but it makes them unique. I found them to be touching and informative. You can find almost anything you want on the internet. A majority of it is worthless. So for a while, spend some quality time here. I will warn you, some of this lays heavy on the heart, but I don't think the people that made this holiday a necessity would want you to feel guilty if you had a good day.

Some History:

The History Channel did a bit on the History of Memorial Day

The History Channel video does not support embedding.

The History of Taps.

I spent 5 years of my life in the Navy hearing this played every evening.

The History Channel's version  of the History of Taps is here

Again, it also does not support embedding.

Our Military

United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Team

This gets good at 3:14 and real good at 4:10

Sharp looking young men.

In The Movies

Some of the best scenes from the movies.

What to say before going into battle?

Patton

A slightly neutered rendition of a motivating speech.

We Were Soldiers

 One of the best

One of my favorites:

Saving Private Ryan

The Mrs. Bixby Scene. You will want to end this at 6:43.

Taking Chance

The movie I intend to buy in the morning:

Bitter Celebration:

We can sensationalize it in film and on stage, but we need to understand what the reality of what war is.

This is a touching clip of the recollections of an old solider:

News Stories to mention:

Guarding the Unknown Solder's Tomb

Story of the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider:

A tradition worthy of meticulous respect.

Arlington Wreath Project:

I know it's Memorial Day and not Christmas, but I felt this should be included:

Medal of Honor:

Story of Ted Ruben

Did you catch it? He escaped a prison camp, found food, and snuck back in.

In Our Music:

A Student Video.

I love this Trace Adkins song and felt I should add it to the web page. The official video does not support embedding.

I searched for the perfect one and found this. This video was made by some high school students. I chose this one because of who made it. Students.

And now to close.

One of the most beautiful versions of Amazing Grace and Taps I have ever heard.

If you are viewing this page on Memorial Day, I suggest you start this video and while the music plays, take a good look around you. As simple as the truth can be, you should think to yourself the opportunities made possible by the sacrifice of these great souls. You have freedom to believe what you want. Freedom to ride where you want. Freedom say what you want. Freedom to pursue almost anything a kind heart desires. Proving even hundreds of years later, their sacrifice is still meaningful and significant. A gift we should not take for granted. I hate war, but at its least common denominator, it will be a stupid necessity until there is an almighty peace.

Respectfully,

Timothy Nash
